Bobcats have fun in rout of SFT
Fun was the key word inside the Basehor-Linwood boys basketball locker room before Tuesday’s game against Santa Fe Trail.
Coach Mike McBride wanted his players to forget about all the expectations surrounding a team that just lost a pivotal Kaw Valley League game to Lansing and just play basketball.
He wanted the players to simply relax.
“Our new perspective is to go out there, have fun and see what happens,” he said. “We got too much into winning, and that is not what we have been about. We hit nine 3-pointers, and this was a good bounce-back game.”
Chandler Schaake made four 3-pointers as the good times rolled for the Bobcats.
“We are just trying to get the feeling back to when we won nine in a row,” McBride said. “I let them turn it loose tonight.”
In addition to Schaake’s performance, 10 other players scored in the game. Schaake was the only player to finish in double figures.
BLHS has three regular-season games remaining this season. If Piper or Mill Valley beats Lansing next week, then the Bobcats still have a shot at a league title. For now, however, they’re focused on preparing for the Class 4A sub-state tournament and trying to advance to state.
“With us being out of the league race, maybe we can focus ourselves on getting ready for sub-state and peaking at the right time,” McBride said. “We have talked a lot about getting back to playing 32 minutes of play and not worrying about any other expectations.”
