Basehor resident attacked Tuesday by own pit bull
A Basehor resident was attacked Tuesday morning by his own dog.
Basehor Police Chief Lloyd Martley said police responded to a call about the attack at about 11:15 a.m. Resident Darin Martin was the owner of two pit bulls and had previously been cited as being in violation of the city’s vicious animal ordinance for not having the proper licensing for his dogs.
Martley said one of Martin’s pit bulls started biting his arm while he was in his backyard. A friend who was at the house heard the commotion and came to Martin’s aid, Martley said. The friend shot the dog, Martley said, and later cut its throat with a knife when it attempted to stand.
Martin was taken by a second friend to Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., for treatment of the injuries on his arm. Martley said Martin requested the police take his second pit bull from his home and arrange to have it euthanized.
