Fort’s new water treatment requires change for dialysis

July 29, 2009

Fort Leavenworth is switching its water disinfection method to a form of chlorine known as “free chlorine,” which does not contain ammonia.

The process started Monday and will end Monday, Aug. 10. Persons undergoing dialysis treatment should contact their care provider to adjust for free chlorine instead of chloramines. Water users may experience a drop in water pressure or some discoloration of their water, but this should only last a short period of time. There is no reason for concern; this is because of the switch in chlorine type only. If problems persist, contact American Water at (913) 758-9272.
