Basehor junior attends Boys State in Manhattan
Basehor-Linwood High School junior Ian Smith attended the American Legion Boys State of Kansas May 31 through June 6 at Kansas State University in Manhattan.
Smith was one of about 500 boys who attended the government and leadership program. Participants formed mock governments and campaigns for positions at the city, county and state levels.
Motivational speaker Dustin Galyon opened this year’s session. Other speakers included Kansas District 87 Representative Raj Goyle, Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh, Kansas Court of Appeals Judge G. Joseph Pierron, Jr., Johnson County District Court Judge Thomas Sutherland and Kansas House of Representatives candidate Scott Seel.
