Anglers brave cold, snow on opening day

March 5, 2009

Cold temperatures and wet white snow blanketed Wyandotte County Lake this past weekend on the first day of the fishing season, but they weren't enough to keep diehard fisherman from missing opening day.

Park Rangers reported about 175 cars in line prior to opening the gates at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Rangers reported the number was about a third of the participants that waited in line last year.

The lake was stocked with rainbow trout two weeks ago in preparation for the annual opening-day event.
