Sentinel wins 11 awards in press association contest
The Basehor Sentinel picked up six first-place awards and 11 awards overall in the Kansas Press Association’s 2009 Awards of Excellence competition.
Competing in the KPA’s Nondaily Division 1, the Sentinel won first place for photo package, “Wine,” by Estuardo Garcia and Lara Hastings; feature story, “Camp goers enjoy disability break,” by Karrey Britt; news and writing excellence; sports column writing by Chris Wristen; best newspaper Web site; and column writing, by Hastings.
The Sentinel won second-place awards in the education story category with “Youths honor veterans,” by Kaitlyn Syring, and photo illustration.
Third-place awards were given to the Sentinel in best use of photos, sports pages and headline writing by Wristen.
The awards will be presented during the association’s annual convention in April in Wichita.
