BLHS runners second at Pleasant Ridge
The Basehor-Linwood cross country teams each placed second on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Pleasant Ridge Invitational.
The BLHS boys ran one of their best races of the season and were edged by Christ Prep by just seven points.
“They had a very good night,” coach Jeff Venema said.
Brady Blackwood ran a gritty race for the Bobcats. He rolled his ankle during the first quarter mile of the race, but he managed to continue running and placed fourth.
“That was just tremendous. A lot of runners would have just stopped the race and decided to go it another day, but he kept going,” Venema said. “I was pleased with the effort.”
Blackwood’s official time was unavailable because Pleasant Ride has not distributed results yet.
The BLHS girls also placed second behind Lansing and ran an average race, Venema said.
As in the boys’ race, official individual results were not available.
It was another meet where both teams ran without a full roster. Runners missed the meet due to injuries and illness. Others were able to run after battling sicknesses, but were not up to full strength in the races.
The Bobcats hope to be healthy by the time they compete in the Kaw Valley League Championships at 4 p.m. today at Shawnee Mission Park.
