USM offering warm Halloween option

October 28, 2009

With the mercury plummeting early this year, the University of Saint Mary is happy to offer “Trick or Treat off the Streets,” a warm, safe, alternative trick-or-treat experience for pint-sized ghosts, ghouls and witches from 7-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 in USM’s two campus residence halls.

The program is free and open to the public, and is a Leavenworth-Lansing area Halloween favorite on USM’s Leavenworth campus, 4100 S. Fourth St. In previous years, as many as 200 local children and families trick-or-treated around USM’s dorms. Call (913) 758-6120 for more information.

Children and parents are free to roam in costume through the second, third, fourth, and fifth floors of Maria Hall as well as the first, second, and third floors of the university’s brand new apartment- style residence hall, Berkel Hall. Both dorms are on the north side of USM’s campus.

USM students will be in costume and ready to distribute treats to avid trick-or-treaters. Parents or legal guardians must accompany children at the event and all participants must provide their own bags for carrying candy.

Interested in donating candy to the event? USM will accept donations up until Halloween day.

Company or individual donations are welcome. Call (913) 758-6120 to make a donation.

“Trick or Treat off the Streets” is sponsored by the University of Saint Mary Student Government Association in conjunction with the USM student life department. Organizers ask that visitors come early, as parking is limited.
