Health department plans drive-tru flu shot clinics

September 10, 2009

The Center for Disease Control is recommending an earlier seasonal flu shot this year.

The seasonal flu vaccine is meant to protect people from influenza strains that are likely to start circulating this winter, sometime between December and March. The seasonal flu shot is not intended to protect people from the 2009 H1N1 strain of influenza.

Leavenworth County Health Department is offering two drive-thru seasonal flu clinics to the public this year.

The Leavenworth drive-thru clinic is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 21 at 10th Avenue Park in Leavenworth.

The Tonganoxie drive-thru clinic is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tonganoxie Middle School, 812 Washington. Anyone 6 months or older can be vaccinated at either clinic. Children 6 months to 3 years need a doctor’s note. The cost is $20.
