10 Years Ago (July 27, 2000)

Sarah Jump, Basehor-Linwood High School senior, was competing for the title of Miss Teen U.S.A. in Shreveport, La.

The Kansas Plainsmen, minor league football team, opened its season with a win over the Omaha Trailblazers. The team was based in Edwardsville.

25 Years Ago (Aug. 1, 1985)

Bob Evans, Bonner Springs city manager, said the new wastewater treatment plant was expected to be in operation by Sept. 1.

The city of Edwardsville reported that 43 building permits were issued during the first six months of the year. This included six single-family dwellings.

50 Years Ago (July 28, 1960)

Arthur Hanson, local builder, was a candidate for the Kansas Legislature in the primary election.

Stan’s Market advertised bread for 10 cents per loaf and hamburger was priced at three pounds for $1.

100 Years Ago (July 28, 1910)

A group of about 20 young people from Bonner Springs camped at Forest Lake. They were required to keep regular hours and be up by sunrise. There were four supervising adults accompanying the church group.

The Basehor Epworth League sponsored a benefit ice cream social.
