2 from Bonner Springs earn All-League honors
Jourdaine Smallwood was the smallest quarterback in the Kaw Valley League this season, but he played like one of its biggest.
Smallwood threw for more than 1,500 yards and rushed for almost 300. That effort earned him All-KVL honorable mention status.
“There were a lot of good quarterbacks in the league this year,” BSHS coach Lew Kasselman said. “I thought he had a chance to maybe be second team, but there were other good quarterbacks and their teams won more games.
“He did add a lot of excitement to the game and he’s a heck of a competitor.”
Smallwood was the lone offensive player from Bonner Springs to garner All-KVL honors, and he was one of just two Braves to be recognized at all. Senior defensive back Nick Carver also was an honorable mention selection after serving as one of the team’s top stoppers in the secondary and one of the Braves’ leading tacklers.
“We needed guys who could make plays,” Kasselman said, “and he was fast enough and athletic enough that he was able to do that for us.”
