Murphy’s long-range record leads BLHS boys to victory, No. 1 seed at substate
Colin Murphy set a Basehor-Linwood school record as he buried eight 3-pointers in a 68-41 rout of Perry-Lecompton Tuesday night at BLHS.
Basehor's victory, coupled with Sumner Academy's 68-57 loss to Bishop Miege, helped the Bobcats secure the No. 1 seed for next week's Class 4A substate tournament.
Basehor slugged its way to an 18-14 lead after the first quarter as a scrappy Perry hung around.
In the second quarter, however, Murphy erupted for 18 points, including four 3-pointers, as BLHS exploded for a 42-24 halftime lead.
Murphy then knocked in four more treys in the third quarter before being pulled with about a minute to go in the period.
Basehor led 62-30 after three quarters and none of the starters played in the final eight minutes.
Murphy finished with 32 points and Jake Hattock added 15 in the victory.
BLHS improved to 17-2.
