Navinsky, who replaced legislator summoned to Iraq, steps down
Topeka State Rep. Don Navinsky, D-Easton, has resigned.
Navinsky was selected in 2009 to represent the 40th House District after Melanie Meier, D-Leavenworth, a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves, was called up to active duty in Iraq.
Meier has returned from Iraq and is expected to seek back her position in the Legislature.
When Navinsky replaced Meier he said he would leave once she returned. His resignation is effective Jan. 19.
The 40th District Democratic precinct committee officials will select a successor.
The 2010 legislative session starts Monday.
