Letter: Helpers make successful relay
To the editor:
We would like to thank the entire Kaw Valley community for their overwhelming support of the 8th annual Relay For Life and a special thanks to our 154 honored guests, our cancer survivors, who continue to be our inspiration!
We would like to thank Council President Jeff Harrington and Mayor John McTaggart for welcoming everyone to the relay. Thanks to the VFW Post 6401 for presenting the colors and to Malisa Wallace for her beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. Thanks to the Rev. Bud Jones and the Rev. Dan Waters for leading us in prayer. We would also like to thank the All the Right Moves dancers for entertaining us, and the Bonner Springs High School for allowing us to use their facilities.
The highlight of the evening was the Luminaria Ceremony where more than 1,400 luminarias were lit in honor and memory of cancer survivors. A very special thank you to Dan Muder of Pro Fireworks for providing the awesome fireworks display.
We are grateful for the persistence and determination of our wonderful committee who worked hard to make this event such a success and the Fire Department for all of their support during the event.
We would particularly like to thank the 44 teams who worked so hard to raise money for the American Cancer Society and our event sponsors. We are proud to announce that we raised over $118,000 to help create a world with less cancer and more birthdays!
