The sound of popping firecrackers and the smell of sulfur will continue through the holiday weekend in Lansing, but city officials want to remind the public about laws regarding the discharge of fireworks.
The city allows the discharging of fireworks within city limits from June 30 through July 5. Fireworks can be discharged from noon until 10 p.m., with the exception of July 4 when fireworks may be discharged from noon until 11 p.m.
Fireworks are not allowed to be discharged within the event venue or within 500 feet of the perimeter of the display setup area at the city's Fourth of July Celebration, which is scheduled for Sunday, July 4, at Kenneth W. Bernard Community Park.
Bottle rockets are not allowed to be discharged in the state of Kansas. Individuals caught discharging bottle rockets within city limits will be cited and given a court appearance date.
