Basehor girls oust St. James in substate semifinals
Basehor Basehor-Linwood opened with a 15-4 run, and that made all the difference as the Bobcats cruised to a 53-37 victory against top-seed St. James Academy Thursday night at BLHS in the Class 4A girls basketball substate semifinals.
Basehor's full-court press frustrated St. James into seven early turnovers as the Bobcats built their lead.
The Thunder settled down and took good care of the ball during the final three quarters — they had just seven give-aways during the last three quarter combined — and played mostly even the rest of the way. St. James never drew closer than six.
Cassy Bever and Courtney Poe led St. James with 14 points apiece.
Paige Brown led St. James with 10 points, including an 8-for-8 showing at the free throw line.
St. James ends its season with a 16-6 record. The 16 victories are a school record.
Basehor (15-7) advances to play Baldwin at 6 p.m. Saturday in the substate finals at BLHS. Baldwin upended Sumner Academy in the other semifinal, 51-46.
