BLMS athletes excel at league meet
The Basehor-Linwood Middle School track and field team turned in a strong showing at the league championships on May 5.
The seventh-grade girls placed fourth as a team, and Quinn Walcott led the way with a runner-up finish in the hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter run.
Marriah Clayton took second in the 200 and third in the long jump, Keirsten Lindelof placed third in the 1,600, and the 1,600-meter relay team of Sarah Rehm, Walcott, Jordan Erikson and Clayton finished fourth.
The seventh-grade boys finished eighth as a team, led by Nathan Vitt who finished fourth in the 1,600.
In the eighth-grade girls’ competition, Victoria Smith led the way with first-place finishes in the shot put and discus while also taking third in the high jump.
Alley Laney won the 1,600 and took second in the 3,200, Hailey Robinson was second in the hurdles, Brooke Olesen finished third in the 1,600, and Brianna Torrez was fourth in the 200. The Basehor-Linwood girls took fourth as a team.
Bryan Crowe was the top performer for the eighth-grade boys. He took third in the high jump and the 100. Sean Potter placed second in the long jump, and Corey McCleary was fourth in the 200. The eighth-grade boys placed sixth as a team.
