Lansing beats Mill Valley for KVL volleyball title
Only one team proved itself to be better than Mill Valley on Saturday at the Kaw Valley League Volleyball Tournament at the Bonner Springs District P.E. Center.
That team — Lansing — beat Mill Valley in pool play and again in the tournament finals.
LHS cruised past Mill Valley in pool play, 25-16, 25-17, but the Lions needed three games to dispose of the Jaguars in the tournament finals.
Lansing won game one, 25-18, but Mill Valley countered for a 25-22 victory in game two. Finally, the Lions regrouped and won the final game, 25-19, and secured the league championship.
In addition to defeating Mill Valley in pool play, Lansing hammered Turner, 25-10, 25-17, and cruised past Piper, 25-9, 25-14.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars fended off Piper, 25-20, 25-21, and trampled Turner, 25-18, 25-11.
Lansing beat Bishop Ward in the semifinals, 25-20, 25-10, while Mill Valley snuck past Tonganoxie, 25-20, 25-22, to reach the finals.
Both Mill Valley and Lansing will compete at the Class 5A regional tournament Saturday at MVHS.
