Agriculture group offers contests for teachers, students
The Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom is offering opportunities for teachers and students.
For teachers KFAC will award the Janet Sims Memorial Teacher of the Year, which recognizes a teacher for his or her efforts to incorporate agriculture into the classroom.
The 2011 Janet Sims Memorial TOY recipient will be recognized in March. The TOY recipient will choose an all-expense paid trip to attend the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference June 22-25, 2011, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., or a $250 gift certificate to purchase agricultural education supplies for his or her classroom.
Applications are due Dec. 3 and are available on the KFAC website: ksagclassroom.org.
For students: The 2010 Post Card Art Contest, sponsored by KFAC and Kansas State University College of Agriculture, is under way. The theme for this year is “Celebrate Kansas: 150 years of Agriculture,” and its focus is agriculture’s influence on Kansas’ history.
One winner from each grade level (K-6) and one grand prize winner will be selected, and each winner will receive a U.S. Savings Bond.
Official entry forms are also available on the KFAC website. Entries must be postmarked by Jan. 31, 2011.
