BLHS baseball crushes Sumner
The Basehor-Linwood High School baseball team has taken its share of lumps this season, but on Thursday it was the Bobcats’ turn to hand out a few licks as they routed Sumner Academy, 20-1.
The Bobcats scored 11 runs in the fourth inning to take a 15-0 lead. Sumner responded with one run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 15-1 game.
In the fifth inning, Basehor-Linwood scored five more runs. Sumner didn’t have an answer, and the game ended in a run-rule victory for BLHS.
Basehor-Linwood had its best offensive showing of the season, pounding out 15 hits. Nathan Quigley led the team with three hits and two runs batted in. Jared Patton had two hits and 3 RBI. Tyler Ogden also had two hits and two RBI. In addition, Destry Bryan had two hits.
Bryan also pitched and earned the win for the Bobcats, throwing three innings of shutout ball. He faced just 10 batters. Jared Patton pitched an inning in relief and allowed one run. Nick Rhodes pitched the final inning and retired the Sabres.
Basehor-Linwood led the entire game, scoring one run in the first inning. The Bobcats added three more runs in the third inning to make it a 4-0 game.
With the win, Basehor-Linwood improves to 3-4 on the season. The Bobcats play again at 3 p.m. Monday at home against Bishop Ward and then play a 3:30 p.m. Thursday game at Bishop Ward.
