The Bonner Springs High School track team sent a limited lineup Friday to the Shawnee Mission West Invitational, but the Braves who competed turned in some strong performances.

In particular, the BSHS girls shined on their way to a sixth-place finish in the team standings.

Emily Wilson set the tone for the Braves as she medaled in a pair of individual events. Wilson blazed to a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash in 27.98 seconds. She also placed fourth in the 100 in 13.55.

Also scoring points for the Jaguars in the sprints was Tyreka Johnson, who finished seventh in the 100 in 13.73.

The 3,200-meter relay team placed third in 11:22.63.

The Braves also were bolstered by their throwers. Bridgett Bradley was the top BSHS thrower as she finished second in the discus with a mark of 115 feet, 5 inches. Only Lizzy Jeronimus of West — who won with a mark of 127-1 1/2 — was better. Josie Freeby placed fifth for BSHS with a mark of 94-8. In the shot put, Erica Wilson was sixth at 29-10 and Freeby placed seventh at 29-5.

In the boys’ competition, BSHS placed with a pair of relay teams. The 3,200-meter relay team finished fourth in 8:58.99 and the 400-meter relay team was fifth in 46.52.

The Braves next compete at 4 p.m. today when they play host to the Bonner Springs Invitational. Additional Braves will be in action Friday and Saturday at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence.
