Seattle snaps Sporting KC’s streak at 14

August 7, 2011

Sporting Kansas City's streak of 14 straight Major League Soccer matches without a loss came to an end with a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders Saturday night at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.

The streak was tied for the third longest unbeaten streak in MLS history.

Sporting KC was in control for the first hour, but a catastrophic collapse in the final minutes led to a loss.

Forward Kei Kamara opened the scoring in the first half, but a red card to Designated Player Omar Bravo in the 59th minute left Sporting Kansas City short a man for the final half hour, as Seattle was able to equalize through Mauro Rosales in the 90th minute before substitute forward Lamar Neagle got the winner in the 92nd minute.

Sporting KC took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Matt Besler sent a long throw-in from the right touchline to the far post where Kamara redirected it into the net with a header.

Sporting Kansas City continued to control the match until Bravo's red card. That's when momentum shifted.

Sporting KC held off Seattle despite being a man down for 30 minutes. The Sounders tied the match when Rosales scored off of a deflection in the 90th minute.

A goal by Neagle in stoppage time gave Seattle the victory.

Sporting KC dropped to 7-7-9 overall and is tied for third in the Eastern Conference. The loss was the club's first in a MLS match at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.
