BLHS girls fall to St. Teresa’s
An experienced St. Teresa’s (Mo.) Academy basketball team proved to be too much for a youth-laden Basehor-Linwood girls squad to handle on Thursday at STA.
The Stars beat the Bobcats 46-31 on a night where BLHS fielded a mostly new varsity lineup after losing five letter-winners and four starters to graduation from a squad that finished third last year at the Class 4A state tournament.
The Bobcats played stout defense throughout and forced 24 turnovers, but they committed 30 of their own and that proved to be the difference.
St. Teresa’s jumped out to a 15-8 lead after one quarter, and the Stars led 24-16 at halftime.
The third quarter was mostly even, and then the Bobcats rallied to within six points midway through the fourth quarter. BLHS was unable to get closer, however, as turnovers plagued them on the next few possessions and St. Teresa’s pulled away.
Maggie Rellihan led St. Teresa’s with a game-high 18 points.
Bailey Hooker led BLHS with eight points, Kara Stephens had seven and Jamie Johnson added six for the Bobcats.
BLHS (0-1) next plays at 6 p.m. Friday at Tonganoxie.
