The Basehor-Linwood Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team closed out the season with a second-place finish Dec. 8 at the Kaw Valley League Tournament.
Basehor-Linwood ends the season with a 10-3 record.
BLMS opened the tournament Dec. 6 against Lexington Trails and rolled to a 38-17 victory. Zailey DeLeon led the way with a game-high 12 points, Maya Cooper scored nine, and Sophie Seaton and McKinsey Moody added six apiece.
The team moved on to the semifinals Dec. 7 against Mill Creek. MCMS had handed BLMS a one-point loss during the regular season, but Basehor-Linwood prevailed this time with a 27-24 victory.
DeLeon again led the way with 12 points, Cooper scored nine, Seaton had four and Rachel Hiss added two in the victory.
Finally, Basehor-Linwood played in the tournament finals Dec. 8 against Lansing. DeLeon again had the hot hand with a game-high 18 points, but Lansing proved to be too strong and the Lions overcame an early six-point BLMS lead before winning 36-25.
Team members on the KVL runner-up squad are Sophie Seaton, Morgan Logsdon, Rachel Hiss, McKinsey Moody, Emilee Gilliam, Maya Cooper, Zailey DeLeon, Allison Matthews, Jensen Walcott, Blaze Taylor and Megan Langford.
