10 Years Ago — Dec. 20, 2001

A major fire swept through Basehor Shopping Center resulting in an estimated $1 million in damages.

Christina McCarty, Basehor-Linwood senior, signed a letter-of-intent to play volleyball at Benedictine College.

The Bonner Springs Rotary Club was meeting at Ross’ Steakhouse and the Edwardsville Kiwanis Club was meeting at the Redwood Inn.

25 Years Ago — Dec. 25, 1986

Clint and Judy Vickers received first place in the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville home decorating contest.

50 Years Ago — Dec. 21, 1961

Charles J. Hough was appointed to the Bonner Springs Police Department, replacing Clarence E. Peterson, who resigned.

Jay F. Jones was president of the Bonner Springs Lions Club.

100 Years Ago — Dec. 21, 1911

Bonner Springs High School dismissed early for the holidays to allow construction inside the building to be completed.

Rev. Benson, who had been a missionary to China, was conducting services at the Methodist Church and was drawing large crowds.

Olathe defeated Bonner Springs, 35-12. Jaggard played well for Bonner Springs.

The Rev. Fred Barnes was conducting services at the Loring Church. Sunday school attendance was the largest in recent years.

I always seem to notice that "Remember When" seems to always highlite Bonner Springs. What about Basehor, Tonganoxie and surrounding communities? Our paper is called the Basehor Sentinel.
