Less than one week left before election filing deadline
Less than a week before the filing deadline, five candidates had filed to run for Basehor-Linwood school board seats and two have filed to run for Basehor City Council seats in the April election, as of Wednesday afternoon.
School board incumbents Jeane’ Redmond and Dayna Miller have both filed for re-election. Redmond represents position 1, which consists of territory north of Parallel Road and extending to the northern boundary of the school district; and Miller represents position 2, all territory south of Parallel Road and extending to the Sherman Township Boundary line.
Three candidates have filed for position 7, an at-large seat: Jeff Tindell, Lori Van Fleet and Jim Peters.
No candidates have yet filed for the position 3 seat, which is open to residents of territory south of the Sherman Township boundary line and extending to the Kansas River.
For the city council, Bill Moyer and Richard Drennon have filed for the election. Moyer was appointed to the council by Mayor Terry Hill in 2009. Three city council seats are up for election.
The candidate filing deadline is noon Tuesday.
Candidates for school board positions must file at the Leavenworth County Courthouse, 300 Walnut St. in Leavenworth; city council candidates can file at the courthouse or at Basehor City Hall, 2620 N. 155th St.
