Sporting KC ties Philadelphia, stretches unbeaten streak to 6
June 23, 2011
Sporting Kansas City had its two-game winning streak snapped Wednesday at the Philadelphia Union, but KC's six-match unbeaten streak rolled on with a 0-0 tie.
The streak is the third-longest active stretch in Major League soccer.
It didn't come easily, but a outstanding effort by goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen made it possible as he matched a career high with seven saves while recording his second straight shutout.
Philadelphia unleashed 26 total shots, seven of them on target. Kansas City was held without a shot on goal for just the third time in franchise history.
Sporting played without defender Aurelien Collin who was serving a mandatory one-game suspension for earning five yellow cards.
Sporting Kansas City improved to 3-6-5 this season and remained in ninth in the Eastern Conference.
NOTES
— Captain Davy Arnaud became the third player in club history to surpass 19,000 regular-season minutes played in his MLS career.
— Defender Seth Sinovic, a Leawood native, started his third straight match and fourth of the season. Sporting KC is 2-0-2 with the local product in the starting lineup.
