Reunion time for Lansing High alumni
It’s nearly that time again.
Saturday, July 23, will be Lansing High School’s Annual Class Reunion. It will be at the Eagles Club again this year and promises to be a good time for all.
The social hour begins at 6 p.m. and the dinner at 7 p.m. The dance will follow a short business meeting.
I know that a lot of the classes have their individual reunions, and that is great, but they miss a lot by not coming to the affair that includes all the classes from the beginning of time. We enjoy seeing the young folks there that went to school with our children, and it is so hard to believe they are grandparents now. And we also enjoy visiting with class members that graduated long before I did.
This will be my 65th year to celebrate, and there are plans for an older gentleman to come to celebrate his 75th year out of high school. This alone should be a good incentive.
I can remember many class reunions that were held in many different places. I really do not know how many years they go back or when they first started as an annual affair. One special time was in 1956 when my Aunt Margaret and Uncle Bill Young drove up from Pittsburg to celebrate her 50th year. She was Margaret Rowe and she was in the first graduating class of 1906. I think they had a box lunch picnic but since I did not attend that year I don’t remember any more about it.
My 25th year reunion was in the Lansing High School Gymnasium. It had been there several years. Several were in the basement room of the Cody Hotel in Leavenworth. One year we all went to the clubhouse at Piper Lake. My, that was a grand affair. In recent years they have been held at the Eagles Club in Leavenworth, and that has proven to be a good spot for our group.
It is hard to believe that 6,072 students have graduated from Lansing High since 1906.
