Stock, Miller among best in Wyandotte County
A season full of rapidly improving times by the Bonner Springs High School girls swimming team added up to a second-place finish Thursday at the Wyandotte County Championships.
From individual events to relays, the Braves were among the top swimmers all night. Toni Stock and Cheyanne Miller both won individual league titles and contributed to relay successes.
The Braves opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay by Makayla Mefferd, Elizabeth Barger, Stock and Miller. Stock and Miller also joined Barger and Kaysi Bias on the third-place 200 freestyle relay.
Stock and Miller continued to lead the way in the individual events as they finished 1-2 in the 100 freestyle. Stock paired her 50 freestyle victory with a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly.
Miller later won the 50 freestyle, and Stephanie Rose, Bias and Mefferd joined her in the top 10.
Barger added third-place finishes in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, Jordan Merino finished fourth in the 500 freestyle and Rose placed fourth in the 100 backstroke. Mefferd and Savannah Lochert added top-10 finishes in the backstroke, and Bias and Chandler Clark finished in the top 10 in the breaststroke.
Merino, Rose, Mefferd and Bias closed out the meet with a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Braves returned to the water at the Inter-League Championships Wednesday at Osawatomie. Results were unavailable at press time.
