Rally falls short, BLHS falls in first round of baseball state tourney
Basehor-Linwood’s Cinderella run through the baseball postseason ended with a 7-6 loss to Baxter Springs in the first round of the Class 4A state tournament Friday at Dean Evans Stadium.
The game was scoreless through two innings, but the Lions took advantage of a hit batter, an error and two hits to take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
Baxter Springs used an error and a single to score two more times in the fourth for a 5-0 lead.
BLHS stormed back in the top of the sixth. Nathan Quigley reached on an error to start the inning. Jared Patton doubled, Tyler Ogden singled and Austin Stubbs tripled. Later Garrett Kahle singled as the Bobcats pulled within 5-4.
Baxter Springs tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-4 lead, but the Bobcats rallied once more. Destry Bryan led off the seventh with a single and Quigley followed with a two-run homer to left field that brought BLHS within 7-6.
Basehor-Linwood put two more runners on base before Baxter Springs recorded the final out.
BLHS finished the season with a 12-12 record.
