Bobcats hammering Hiawatha at halftime
There's still a half of football left to play, but the Basehor-Linwood Bobcats appear to be well on their way to the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
Basehor-Linwood leads visiting Hiawatha 49-0 at halftime of their first-round game at BLHS.
The Bobcats scored on their third play from scrimmage on a 3-yard run by Jesse Hiss just 79 seconds into the game.
The lead grew to 14-0 with 7:12 left in the opening quarter on an 8-yard run by Drew Potter.
Paul Rehm recovered a fumbled kickoff return moments later, and then BLHS scored on a 3-yard run by Hiss to put the lead at 21-0.
Another Hiawatha fumble was recovered by Dalton Mellies. Moments later, Hiss scored on a 5-yard run and the Bobcats led 28-0 less than six minutes into the game.
Colin Murphy threw a 13-yard touchdown to Ryan Murphy late in the quarter, and the Bobcats led 35-0.
Drew Potter scored on a 46-yard run and Mellies scored on a 1-yard run during the second quarter to push the lead to 49-0.
The Bobcats were driving again late in the quarter, but a Colin Murphy pass was intercepted by Hiawatha's Connor Bigham.
