Bonner Springs Fire Department responded to a barn fire Wednesday morning in the rural area southwest of the city, which created a large plume of black smoke that was visible for miles.
Officials at the fire department said a crew responded to a call this morning about 9:30 a.m. Fire Chief Clinton Long said the fire was a small barn located behind a larger horse barn near 142nd Street and Krieder Road.
Long said the fire had advanced and destroyed the barn by the time fire crews arrived. He said though the barn was small, corrugated, plastic siding on the barn created a lot of dark smoke. The Sherman Township Fire Department also was called to the scene to help haul water.
