BLMS eighth-grade girls off to strong start
The Basehor-Linwood Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team has surged out of the starting gates for the 2011 season.
Basehor-Linwood opened the season with a first-place finish at the BLMS Classic, defeating Perry-Lecompton, 58-19, on Oct. 25 and then routing Pioneer Ridge, 41-9, on Oct. 27. Jenna Donnelly scored 28 points during the pair of victories, and Madison Wheeler provided 20 points during the two games, Zoey DeLeon had 16 and Jenna Mussett had 11 to lead the way in the 2-0 start to the season.
The success has continued into November.
The BLMS A team improved to 3-0 with a 38-7 rout of Lexington Trails on Nov. 1. Mussett led the way with 8 points in the victory, Chandley Easley scored 7, Madison Sibert had 6 and DeLeon added 5 in the victory. Meanwhile, the junior varsity squad earned a 17-8 victory in its season-opener behind a 6-point performance from Rachel Tindell and 4 points from Jordan Blackwood.
Two days later, the BLMS varsity squad suffered its first setback of the season with a 38-27 loss to Lansing. Nicole Rutherford scored a team-high 12 points and Jenna Donnelly added 11 in the loss. The JV squad fell to LMS, 20-13. Tindell scored 6 points and Hanna Dickey added 4 to lead the way.
