BLMS seventh-grade hoops undefeated so far
The Basehor-Linwood Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball program is off to a solid start to the season.
The BLMS varsity squad opened the season with a first-place finish at the BLMS Classic. The squad opened with a 21-17 victory against Perry-Lecompton on Oct. 25. Zailey DeLeon led the way with 8 points and Maya Cooper added 5. Then, BLMS beat Pioneer Ridge, 29-13, on Oct. 27 as DeLeon poured in 14 points and Cooper scored 7.
After that, regular-season action began for both the varsity and junior varsity squads. The varsity team overcame a slow start to beat Lexington Trails, 42-19, on Nov. 1. Cooper scored a game-high 16 points, DeLeon had 13 and McKinsey Moody chipped in 5. The JV squad also was victorious, 30-5. Allison Matthews had a team-high 8 points, Mariesla Brown, Mack Grimes and Kylie Hooks had 6 points apiece and Britney Smith chipped in 4.
On Nov. 3, both Basehor-Linwood squads were victorious again as the varsity improved to 4-0 and the JV moved to 2-0. The varsity team beat Lansing, 37-33, behind a team-high 16 points from Cooper, 11 from DeLeon, 4 from Jensen Walcott and 3 apiece from Rachel Hiss and McKinsey Moody. The JV earned a 13-9 victory as Matthews and Grimes had 4 apiece, Blaze Taylor and Hooks each scored 2 and Mari Brown added 1.
