Missouri River bridge in Leavenworth back to two lanes for winter
As of Tuesday morning, Kansas Highway 92 has been re-opened to two lanes of traffic on the Centennial Bridge in Leavenworth, according to a Kansas Department of Transportation release.
Traffic on the bridge is returning to normal as repairs shut down for the winter. The bridge spans the Missouri River and connects to Platte County, Mo.
K-92 on the bridge had been reduced to one lane, allowing for traffic moving in only one direction at a time, directed by temporary traffic signals. Those restrictions are set to return in spring 2012, when KDOT resumes repairs on the bridge. KDOT will provide advance notice of the repairs, according to the release.
The repairs are scheduled to be completed in fall 2012, barring weather-related delays. Repairs were halted for more than three months this past summer to allow for heavier-than-usual traffic caused by Missouri River flooding, which led to closures of other bridges and roadways in the area.
