Village West events honor NASCAR, heroes

October 6, 2011

It’s NASCAR race weekend at the Kansas Speedway, featuring the Hollywood Casino 400, the fourth race in the chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Weekend events will kick off at 5:45 p.m. today with the first annual hauler parade, in which more than 40 NASCAR haulers will participate in a parade throughout the Village West area in Kansas City, Kan.

The parade will start on Speedway Boulevard before turning onto Village West Parkway in the Legends Outlets Kansas City. The haulers then will turn on to Stadium Drive before turning left onto 110th Street and heading back to the speedway.

The hauler parade precedes the fifth annual Parade of Heroes, going on this evening, as well. That parade will feature vintage military vehicles, marching bands, and fire and police departments.

The Parade of Heroes, which honors men and women in uniform, is presented each year by the Village West Rotary Club.

In addition to the Hollywood Casino 400 on Sunday, races scheduled this weekend at the speedway include the Kansas Lottery 98.9 on Friday and the Kansas Lottery 300 on Saturday.
