Pet adoptions encouraged through fashionable event

October 12, 2011

Maurices, 1837 Village West Parkway in the Legends Outlets Kansas City, will play host to a Rescues & Runways fashion show at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

During the event, women modeling the national retail chain’s clothing and accessories will be joined by local animals that are available for adoption.

Maurices Rescues & Runways is an annual campaign to raise awareness and funds for local animal shelters and encourage pet adoptions.

Admission is free but attendees are invited to bring Walmart or Home Depot giftcards, paper towels, 55-gallon garbage bags, fleece blankets, wet cat food, clay, unscented cat litter, liquid laundry detergent, Dawn dish soap and Kong-brand dog toys. All donations will go to Heartland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Donations will also be accepted at Maurices through Oct. 31.

Donors will each receive a coupon for 20 percent off on regular-priced item.
