Four-vehicle wreck Friday on 24-40 in Basehor sends woman to hospital
A Shawnee woman was sent to an area hospital Friday morning after a four-vehicle accident involving a semi truck on U.S. Highway 24-40 in Basehor.
According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, four vehicles were driving in the same eastbound lane on 24-40 just east of 155th Street at about 7:45 a.m. Friday when another vehicle merged in front of them, forcing them to brake.
The third vehicle in line — a Freightliner semi truck driven by Kenneth Lee Cole, 25, of Topeka — did not brake in time and struck another vehicle — a 2006 Mitsubishi driven by Amanda Catherine Rinne, 28, of Shawnee — from behind, according to the report.
That collision caused Rinne's car to strike the vehicle ahead of her, and the fourth vehicle was unable to stop and struck the semi truck from behind.
Because of an injury, Rinne was taken to Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., where she was treated and released immediately, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
