2012 Kansas Relays participants from BSHS and BLHS

Basehor-Linwood junior Dakkota Edmonds crosses the finish line in the in 25.18 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Edmonds won the Class 4A state championship, edging Sumner Academy's Tyler Sloan who finished in 25.32.

High school track and field athletes begin competition in the 85th Kansas Relays at 8 a.m. on Friday with the javelin throw and 4-mile relay inside Lawrence's Memorial Stadium.

The Chieftain and Sentinel will be covering Bonner Springs and Basehor-Linwood's student athletes as they compete on Friday and Saturday. Take a look at the list of participants below, and click on the heat schedule on the left side of this page.

Basehor-Linwood:

• Dakkota Edmonds: 100-meter dash

• Lane Young, Trey Kincheloe, Jesse Jones, Zac Smith, Skylar Ross: 4-x-100-meter relay

• Lane Young: Long jump

Coach Steve Hopkins said Young and Kincheloe are recovering from injuries and will decide whether they are able to participate on Friday. Alternates in the 4-x-100-meter relay would be Alex Jackson and Deric Brannan.

Bonner Springs:

• Bethany Bailey: Pole vault
