After splitting a pair of road contests last week, which included their first loss of the season, Sporting Kansas City will receive a week off before returning to Livestrong Sporting Park on May 5.

Sporting (7-1-0) defeated Vancouver, 3-1, on April 18, before giving up an own goal to surrender its first loss this year, 1-0, at Portland on Saturday.

Kansas City had 16 shots to the Timbers’ 12, with each team recording two shots on goal.

The difference in the game came down to Chance Myers’ own goal in the 42nd minute. Myers collided with Julio Cesar while both were in pursuit of a cross by Kris Boyd.

Myers inadvertently moved the ball past goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen to give up the score.

Sporting will return to play at 7:30 p.m. on May 5 when it hosts the Montreal Impact.
