Basehor-Linwood’s girls golf team began its season Tuesday with the Washburn Rural Invitational at the Lake Shawnee Golf Course against four 6A junior varsity programs in Lawrence High, Lawrence Free State, Washburn Rural and Shawnee Mission East.

The Bobcats (239 total points) finished last behind Lawrence High (194), Shawnee Mission East (214), Free State (218) and Washburn Rural (228).

Julie Lough led the way for the Bobcats with a 58, followed by Marriah Clayton (59), Brooke Schler (60) and Candice Jennings (62).

“The girls learned a lot today,” coach Bruce Courtney said. “All of them are excited to get to practice and get better. I have no doubts that all of them will lower their scores in the future.”

The Bobcats return to competition at 8 a.m. on Aug. 29 against Mill Valley at Alvamar in Lawrence.
