Bonner Springs moves forward with utility relocation project
The Bonner Springs City Council last week approved SK Design Group Inc. as the design engineer for the 134th Street Utility Relocation Project.
The project includes the relocation of the city’s water and sewer mains from the Kansas Highway 7 and Interstate 70 interchange and K-7 Corridor between I-70 and Kansas Avenue to a new corridor on 134th Street. SK Design will complete preliminary street plans for 134th Street and final construction plans for the relocated water and sewer mains.
The utility relocation work will occur on 131st Street, an extension of Canaan Center Drive, along 134th Street between Riverview and Kansas Avenue, and along Kansas Avenue to K-7 Highway.
Surveyors started work this week, and work is scheduled to be complete by the middle of September. Construction is anticipated to start in the spring 2013.
The city will need to acquire additional right-of-way and temporary easements to construct the project. A public informational meeting will be held later this fall to inform residents and property owners of the project design and to begin the acquisition process. Property owners and residents will be sent notification by mail of the date, time and location of that meeting.
