Kimbrough-French wins first individual title at Ottawa cross-country dual
Bonner Springs’ T.J. Kimbrough-French won the individual boys race at the Ottawa dual cross-country race as the Braves endured 95-degree temps along one of the state’s hilliest courses.
Kimbrough-French ran an 11:50 to clinch his first individual victory behind what coach Robert Marriott said was a strong second-mile leg. Teammates Joe Casteel (eighth, 13:32), Zach Quigley (ninth, 14:30) and Tre Scott (10th, 14:33) rounded out the boys top 10.
Citlally Alvarado led the girls team with a seventh-place finish after her 16:38 run. She was followed by Kennedy Bacon in 10th place at 16:52. Marriott said Alvarado did a great job of taking over the Braves’ top spot after Mandy Ballou fell just before the mile. Ballou went on to place 14th with an 18:40 finish.
Ottawa won both team titles. The Braves return to competition at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Bishop Miege Invitational.
