Wyandotte County to stock lakes this month
In preparation for the opening day of fishing in Wyandotte County, the public is invited to view the delivery of 6,500 pounds of Rainbow Trout at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at the marina in Wyandotte County Lake Park.
The gates at Wyandotte County Lake and Pierson Park will open at 6 a.m. Saturday, March 3, to kick off the fishing season. Wyandotte County Lake will be stocked with Rainbow Trout and Channel Catfish; Pierson is stocked with Channel Catfish. Additional shipments of fish will arrive in March after opening day for a total of 16,000 pounds of trout and 17,500 pounds of channel catfish.
A Unified Government fishing permit and a Kansas Fishing License is required for Kansas residents age 16 and older or 64 and younger. All non-residents 16 and older are required to have the permit and the Kansas License. The permit and license can be purchased at the following locations: Wal-Mart on Parallel and in Bonner Springs, Cabela’s and Minnesota Bait.
Ice on the lakes could delay opening day. Call 913-573-8303 (#5) to check ice conditions on the lake. Lake hours are 6 a.m. to midnight opening day to Nov. 30. Boats require a Wyandotte County Boat Permit, and they need to be off the lake by 11 p.m. Visit wycokck.org/parks for more fishing and boating information.
