Neighbors: Brian J. White
January 18, 2012
Brian J. White shares a little bit about himself in this week's Neighbors column.
Occupation: Director of choral activities for Bonner Springs High School
Place of birth: Kansas City, Kan.
Family: Wife, Donna; sons, Caden, a second grader, and Willem, who just turned 8 months old
Q: When did you move to the area and what brought you here?
A: This is my ninth year in teaching, all at BSHS. I was raised in Leavenworth, and I have an affinity for northeast Kansas.
Q: What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
A: Teaching driver’s education at BSHS.
Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
A: You have to have balance in your life.
Q: What three things would you want people to know about you?
A: I love being a husband and dad. I like to play as hard as I work. And now that I’m a grown-up man, I’ve finally learned there is a lot to learn (and teach) from superheroes!
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: As a child, my career aspirations changed from month to month, as they tend to do with any child, ranging from being a trash man, astronaut and an NBA legend like Larry Bird. In high school, I knew I wanted to sing, so I have found the perfect job that enables me to sing every day and teach others the joy of singing and music.
Q: What’s your ideal vacation spot?
A: I love the beauty of Colorado Springs, but would love to travel to Ireland and Hawaii.
Favorites:
Song: Most anything by Coldplay, Maroon 5 and composers Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff
Color: Purple (Kansas State University)
Food: I can’t turn down hamburgers, steaks or crab legs.
