Former county employee found guilty of misdemeanor theft
A former Leavenworth County employee was found guilty of one count of misdemeanor theft Tuesday for purchases made with a county credit card.
The six-person jury found Wanda L. Doty, 41, a former executive secretary to the Leavenworth County Commission, guilty on one count, but not the remaining eight counts, County Attorney Todd Thompson said.
The counts stemmed from nine gasoline purchases made between Dec. 20, 2009, and May 8, 2011. Doty was found guilty of theft regarding the May 8 purchase.
Assistant county attorney Joan Lowdon represented the prosecution, while Gary Nelson represented the defense.
Thompson said six-person juries are standard with misdemeanor trials. The trial lasted two days.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 20.
