Sandstone Amphitheatre now dubbed ‘Cricket Wireless’

March 21, 2012

Sandstone Amphitheater now is officially Cricket Wireless Amphitheater.

New West Presentations, the amphitheater’s management company, announced Tuesday that the outdoor concert venue is now named Cricket Wireless Amphitheater, a name change as part of a new partnership with the wireless service provider. Along with a new name, Cricket Wireless Amphitheater also announced a new summer series and several performances of the 2012 summer lineup.

New West Presentations recently renewed a four-year contract with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan., to manage the facility and grounds located in Bonner Springs. The company has managed the facility since 2008.

New to the venue will be the summer series “Wild Country,” turning the venue’s VIP area into an open-air music club on certain Friday and Saturday nights when concerts are not taking place. Live country acts will perform for a 21 and older audience. The events will offer free parking and no cover charges, as well as live deejays, country line dancing and a barbecue food court.

Details about the Wild Country series are available at

The 2012 summer lineup will include:

• The Country Throwdown May 20, featuring Gary Allan and other country artists.

• The Vans Warped Tour July 9, with more than 30 bands.

• The Rock N’ Roll Dream Concert returns July 14, with several classic rock tribute bands.

• The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival July 17, which features bands like Slipknot, Slayer and Anthrax.

• The Summerdaze Festival Aug. 18. Details of this festival have yet to be announced.

New West also said the amphitheater will continue the earth-friendly initiatives put in place in 2008, with the use of biodegradable beverage cups, high-efficiency toilets, Energy Star-compliant lighting and appliances, free parking for hybrid and electric cards, and on-site recycling teams sorting through post-concert trash for recyclable items.

Tickets for the amphitheater will be available at or 1-800-745-3000.
