Homeschoolers receive awards for forensics
Several students from the Bonner Springs-based STARS Homeschool Co-op are being recognized for their forensics performances.
Five high school-level students qualified for the national-level competition, which will be in April, at the Mid-America Association of Christian Schools’ regional Bible Academics and Fine Arts competition March 15 and 16:
• STARS Readers’ Theatre, (First Place) Kaihtlyn Hammeke, Jackson Jennings, Abigail Wiley, Loran Wiley.
• Kaihtlyn Hammeke, Dramatic Interpretation (First Place).
• Abigail Wiley/Loran Wiley - Duet Acting (First Place)
• Loran Wiley, Humorous Interpretation (First Place).
• Loran Wiley, Sacred Piano Solo (First Place).
Other entries in high school who medaled but are not going to nationals were Abigail Wiley, Religious Reading (Third Place), and Loran Wiley, I rating in Classical Piano solo.
Junior high-level medalists were Gabrielle Ferrell, Religious Reading (First Place); Emily Wiley, Oral Interpretation of Poetry (First Place); Gabrielle Ferrell/Emily Wiley, Duet Acting (Third Place); Gabrielle Ferrell, I rating in Classical Piano solo; and Emily Wiley, I rating in Sacred Piano solo.
On March 23, the elementary-level team earned two speech trophies: one for highest total points and the other for highest percentages. Elementary medalists were Elisha Ferrell, Oral Interpretation of Poetry (First Place); Evan Hammeke, Oral Interpretation of Poetry (Third Place); Caleb Jennings, Humorous Interpretation (Second Place); Anna Wiley, Religious Reading (First Place); and Ethan Ferrell, I rating in Humorous Interpretation.
