Bobcats split baseball doubleheader with Tonganoxie
The Basehor-Linwood baseball team picked up its first win of the season when it split a doubleheader against Tonganoxie on Thursday.
The Bobcats (1-3) ended a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run inning en route to defeating the Chieftains, 6-2, in the opener. Tanner Garver and Zach Joyce each contributed a pair of runs batted in, and Joe Merrino and Skylar Barnes also added RBIs. Merrino also hit a double, and Tyler Ogden added a triple.
Overall, the Bobcats batted .407 in the opener, while Skylar Barnes struck out nine and gave up just four hits and two runs through seven innings.
The second game appeared to signal similar fortunes for the Bobcats, as Basehor-Linwood carried a 4-2 lead into the top of the fourth, but Tonganoxie rallied with three runs in the inning and six in the fifth to run away with a 12-4 victory. In all, the Chieftains posted 10-straight runs while shutting down the Bobcats’ offense in the final three innings.
Ogden pitched five innings in the loss and gave up five runs and 12 hits, including a home run by Tonganoxie’s Shane Levy. Levy led Tonganoxie with six RBIs in the game, and also reached on a double and triple.
Garver, Merrino, Barnes and Skylar Ross batted in runs for the Bobcats in the second game.
