BSHS softball finishes regular season at .500
Bonner Springs softball coach Denise Chowning had eyed this week as a key moment in her team’s turnaround. The Braves had just lost eight straight after starting 6-0, injuries having taken a toll on her squad, when Chowning identified Thursday’s doubleheader with Tonganoxie as an opportunity to build momentum heading into regionals.
And build the Braves did. Bonner Springs swept Tonganoxie with 7-0 and 11-5 victories on Thursday, to finish the regular season at 8-8.
The Braves’ second victory came after overcoming a 5-2 deficit through four innings. Bonner Springs strung together eight runs in the final three innings to seal the victory.
Baseball splits doubleheader
Bonner Springs’ baseball team split a doubleheader at Tonganoxie on Thursday. In the opener, the Chieftains earned a 7-6 victory. The Braves took control of the second game with a 6-1 victory. Bonner Springs is now 4-13 entering Monday’s game at De Soto, which begins at 5 p.m.
On Wednesday, the Braves will host Basehor-Linwood in a doubleheader for senior night.
